Young Drivers Scheme (YDS)
The Warwickshire Young Drivers Scheme is orgainsed by the Stratford Group of the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) to give under 17's valuable experience behind the wheel before venturing out on today's busy roads. The scheme is in its third year of operation and works best for 16 year olds within 6 months of their 17th birthday.
It is held on the first Sunday of each month (except January and August) and uses the private road system at the Long Martson Storage depot which is about 6.5 miles south west of Stratford Upon Avon. (CV37 8QR)
The one hour lessons are given by DSA Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) which will give the individual the ability and confidence to gain basic driving skills in a safe environment.Currently there are 28 students being trained by 6 driving instructors.
Each 1 hour lesson costs £21.00 and needs to be paid for in advance. A new Highway Code costs £2.50 and can be ordered at the same time as registering.
